Enfoque de la semana …

¿Qué hacemos con las calabazas?

Esta semana culminamos nuestra unidad de las calabazas hablando acerca de las cosas que podemos hacer o crear con las calabazas. También esculpimos una calabaza para darle forma de Jack-o-lantern. Además, tostamos y probamos las semillas de calabazas. Los niños también tuvieron oportunidad de jugar, pesar y deslizar calabazas en el patio de la escuela.  

Proxima semana...

Comenzaremos la unidad de ‘Nuestras casas’. Dentro de esta unidad hablaremos de los miembros de familia que viven nuestras casas, el tipo de casas  en que vivimos y los cuartos que hay en ellas. Las actividades de esta unidad presentadas a los niños, estarán relacionadas con el currículo de Math Bridges (matemáticas), así como con nuestro currículo de Second Step (socioemocional).

reconocer la diferencia entres sentimientos. Ejemplo:

- Veo que tienes dos juguetes, tu estás contenta, pero mira la cara de tu hermano ¿crees que él está feliz o triste porque no tiene nada?

This week’s focus…

What can we do with pumpkins?

This week we culminated our pumpkin unit by discussing the different things we can do or create with pumpkins. We carved a pumpkin to make a classroom Jack-o-Lantern.  We also scooped the seeds and toasted the seeds to eat them. The children also played, weighed, and rolled the pumpkins down the little hill in the schoolyard.

Next week: We will start our new unit Our Homes. Within this unit, we will discuss the family members that live in the house, the type of homes we live in, and the different types of rooms we have in our homes. The activities that will be presented to the children will be tied to the Bridges Math Curriculum and Second Step Curriculum (social-emotional).

Model to your child how to...

Recognize the difference between feelings. Example: “I see that you have two toys, you are happy, but look at your brother's face. Do you think he is happy or sad because he has no toys?”

Enfoque de la semana …

¿Dónde podemos encontrar calabazas? Continued...

- Desarrollo físico motor: Hicimos flores y hojas de papel para crear un huerto colectivo en nuestro salón de clases.

-Matemáticas: Estamos practicando a reconocer los números del 1 al 6 jugando distintas actividades en grupos pequeños.

-Ciencias: Observamos las venas de una hoja de calabaza y dibujamos nuestras observaciones imitando las líneas en nuestra propia hoja..  

-Arte: Hicimos flores de calabaza utilizando papel china y limpia pipas.

-Lecto-escritura: Leímos el libro, Cosecha de Calabazas, y discutimos los diferentes lugares donde podemos encontrar calabazas

Ayude a  su niño/a a...

reconocer sus sentimientos cuando se sienta enojado/a/ Ejemplo: Veo en tu cara que estás enojado/a, ¿necesitas un momento para tranquilizarte?

Where do we find pumpkins? (Continued)

Gross motor: We made leaves and flowers  out of paper to add to our community pumpkin patch

Math: We are practicing recognizing numbers from 1 to 6 by playing different activities in small groups

Science: We observed the veins of the pumpkin leaf and drew the lines on a leaf

Art: We made pumpkin flowers from yellow tissue paper for our community pumpkin patch

Reading: We read the Pumpkin Harvest book and we discussed the different places where we can find pumpkins.

Model to your child how to...

recognize their feelings when they feel angry. For example, “I see that you are upset. Do you need time to calm down?”

Practice at Home:

Recognizing groups of objects from 0 to 6. For example,  “You have three cookies. How many will you have if I give you another cookie?”

Enfoque de la semana …

¿Dónde podemos encontrar calabazas?

- Desarrollo físico motor: Salimos a recolectar hojas en el bosque cerca de la escuela.-

-Matemáticas: Clasificamos por colores e hicimos una gráfica para investigar qué color de hojas recolectamos más.

-Ciencias: Observamos e investigamos los diferentes tamaños de calabazas. Hicimos una predicción de cuál se hundiría y de cual floraría.

-Arte: moldeamos una calabaza con arcilla y la pintamos con pintura témpera.

-Lecto-escritura: Leímos el libro, Cinco hojas de otoño. Los niños participaron haciendo movimiento con las manos.

This week’s focus…

Where do we find pumpkins?

Gross motor: We went on a leaf walk in the forest near the school. We collected leaves of many colors and sizes.

Math: We did a sorting activity with leaves and then we graphed the leaves by color to investigate which leaf color we collected the most.
Science: We observed and investigated the different sizes of pumpkins and made predictions of which one would sink and which one would float.
Art: We made a small pumpkin with molding clay and painted it with tempera paint.

Reading: We read the book Cinco hojas de otoño and the children participated by using hand gestures.

Model to your child how to...

recognize their feelings. For example,  “I see that you feel scared by the loud noise, but look it's just thunder …”

Practice at Home:

Enfoque de la semana …

¿Cómo nace una calabaza?

• Matemáticas: Pesamos una calabaza usando una báscula y después comparamos su peso con otros objetos: más que, menos que, igual que.
• Ciencias: Practicamos poner en orden el ciclo de vida la calabaza: primero, segundo, tercero, cuarto y por último.
• Arte: Dibujamos una calabaza con una expresión feliz/triste.
• Lecto-escritura: Los niños actuaron el cuento de “Cinco calabazas.”
• Socio-emocional: Aprendimos que podemos observar cómo se sienten las demás personas observando su expresión facial.

Modele a su niño/a a...

observar cómo se sienten las personas mirando la expresión de la cara. Ejem., “mira mi cara, ahora me siento feliz. ¿cómo te sientes tú?

This week’s focus…

How does a pumpkin grow?

Math: We weighed a small pumpkin using a scale and then compared its weight with other objects. We also said if the objects weighed more than, less than, or the same.
Science: We practiced sequencing the pumpkin’s life cycle in order.
Art: We drew a pumpkin with a happy or sad expression.
Reading: The children performed the story Five Little Pumpkins.
Social/emotional: We learned that we can understand how other people feel by observing their facial expression.

Model to your child how to...

Observe how people feel by looking at their facial expression. For example, "Look at my face, I feel happy. How do you feel?”

Practice at Home:

Compare two objects using the following concepts: light/heavy, big/small, long/short.

Enfoque de la semana …

¿Qué es una calabaza?

• Matemáticas: Observamos, clasificamos, medimos, comparamos algunas calabazas. Utilizamos vocabulario para describir nuestra calabaza: anaranjada, pesada redonda, dura, una, igual, más/menos que.  
• Arte: Pintamos una calabaza utilizando pintura tempera.
• Desarrollo físico:Utilizamos crayones y papel para practicar a hacer líneas circulares y así representar la forma redonda de una calabaza.
• Música y movimiento:Utilizamos los dedos de las manos para representar el número de calabazas mientras cantábamos la canción de “La canción de las cinco calabacitas.”

Modele a su niño/a a...

usar una voz firme y mirar a la persona para pedir ayuda. Ejemplo; ¿Me ayudas a abrochar mis chamarra?

This week’s focus…

What is a pumpkin?

Math: We observed, classified, measured and compared pumpkins. We used vocabulary to describe our pumpkins: orange, heavy, round, hard, one, the same, more/less than.

Art: We painted a pumpkin using tempera paint.

Physical Development: We used crayons and paper to draw circles to represent the round shape of a pumpkin.  
Music and movement: We used our fingers to represent the number of pumpkins while singing the song of Cinco calabazas

Model to your child how to...

use a firm voice and look at the person to ask for help. Example; Can you help me zip up my jackets?
